My Fall priories this year

I live in Florida so let it be know, we have not had a single day below 80 yet, but even still there is a shift in the air. A seasonal shift that I think is so good for our souls. Even if I am only pretending there is any real change in temperature.

My boys are back in school, we are getting into a new routine. With travels and Summer plans, a routine was not possible. This is the time of year when suddenly I feel I have more time on my hands. The structure of our days shows me where I have a bit more space. This is unique to the year I am in right now I think - a baby at home with me who naps for 2 hours. My husband's residency schedule doesn’t include any night shifts or weekends- Praise the Lord on both of these accounts! So now I am faced with the question: what do I do with this little bit of extra time?

I have decided there are a few priorities that make a whole lot of sense for me right now and thought I would share in hopes to offer you some inspiration or to begin asking yourself what your priorities are…

1. Devote extra time to prayers and journaling: I constantly have to remind myself of the preeminence of this one when filling my time so here it is at number one! It is hard for me to devote time to prayer when there are many activities and very little routine, so during this time I savor the ease of having time to pray and journal in a regular rhythm. This verse keeps coming back to me…

“Look at the birds in the sky; they do not sow or reap, they gather nothing into barns, yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are not you more important than they? Can any of you by worrying add a single moment to your life-span?”

Matthew 6: 26-27

2. Prepare for the holiday season NOW: make gift lists for family, plan which homemade gifts I will make this year, edit our Christmas card mailing list, solidify holiday travel plans. Heck, I can go ahead and make my Christmas cards since we took our photos while in Spain this Summer traveling! Fall is the perfect time to get ahead a bit.

3. Prep my freezer with meals for when the holiday and sport seasons get busier. Breads freeze so well so that is what I am trying to get back into right now. We also tend to get sick more as the weather cools so I would love to have bread in the freezer for when those months roll around and I don’t have the energy to bake.

4. Last but not least: A bit specific to us as we are welcoming the first baby girl into our family (she will have the best 3 older brothers). So I am enjoying working on a few embroidery crafts and special projects for her nursery. These are perfect to work on while watching football with my husband and cozy movies this Fall!

I hope this gave you some ideas and inspiration. God bless you all and thank you for being here!
